DETAILS
The new two-story Alvaton Elementary School was constructed on a hillside on the existing school site, with upper and lower classroom wings joined by a double height media center. Energy efficiency was top priority for the school district, resulting in numerous building systems and sustainable architecture concepts that were incorporated into the school:
>NUDURA Insulated Concrete Forms
>Alvaton is the first educational building
in kentucky using NUDURA.
>Sandwich panel metal roof system, which
achieves an R-30 insulation.
>Geothermal heat pump system
>Lighting and HVAC occupancy sensors
Alvaton Elementary placed in the top 10 most energy efficient schools in the United States.

DETAILS
4200 lineal feet of NUDURA® Forms were used for a total of over 38,000 square feet of surface area. The NUDURA wall cavities vary from 12” to 18” thick in the basement and walkout areas providing bearing for both masonry finishes and the 6” core block which was used on the main and upper three floors.
