The Building Blocks for a Sustainable Future

Insulated Concrete Forms are the foundation for sustainable design and energy conservation in building construction. Whether you’re looking to build an eco-friendly home or a net-zero school, Nudura ICFs maximize the lifespan and energy efficiency of structures with superior durability, thermal mass and continuous insulation.

Not only are ICFs good for the building and the environment, they are also good for the health of the occupants. Third-party testing shows that buildings with Nudura ICFs can lower operational energy demands by up to 60%.

How ICFs Stack Up

Compared to wood-framing and steel-framing, ICF walls offer the most effective way to minimize heat transfer, thermal bridging and interior temperature fluctuations. With Nudura, the air- and watertight envelope with continuous insulation boasts an R-value of R24 and above, lowering building energy consumption and carbon emissions for the highest-performing and most comfortable buildings on the market. Additionally, our concrete form blocks are made of inorganic materials that prevent mold growth, ensuring healthier indoor air quality for ICF building occupants.

In contrast to wood-frame buildings of comparable size, ICF buildings can accommodate smaller HVAC systems, as they inherently maintain more consistent interior temperatures. By reducing the amount of heating and cooling needed, owners will see the financial benefits of lower energy bills each month.

Green Building Programs

Today, buildings are the largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, comprising 75% of all electricity used. However, Insulated Concrete Forms are changing the way we build to reduce energy consumption and waste.

ICFs are the easiest route for buildings to attain energy-neutral, zero-energy, net-zero and net-positive status. Together with other energy-saving strategies, these concrete structures can significantly reduce their carbon footprint for the highest level of environmental sustainability. These ambitious green building goals are achievable with the superior insulation of an ICF envelope, ensuring excellent efficiency for any building.

Why ICF is Reshaping Sustainble Construction

Eco-Friendly Benefits of ICFs

Insulated Concrete Form wall assemblies are durable and capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions, thus requiring less maintenance throughout the structure's life. This strength reduces the need for additional materials, labor and equipment to repair or replace ICF building materials over time.

The combination of thermal mass from the concrete core and continuous insulation in an ICF system improves building performance by minimizing air leaks, thermal bridging and heat transfer through the wall.

The airtight building envelope reduces the structure’s energy consumption, its carbon footprint, as well as the necessary size of its HVAC equipment. An ICF building maintains the heated or conditioned air longer than other construction methods, avoiding interior temperature fluctuations even in extreme weather, which enables the building’s mechanical systems to heat, cool and ventilate the structure more efficiently.

Using ICFs as opposed to traditional stick-frame methods cuts the amount of wood used and reduces the negative impact on the environment.

Nudura’s reversible ICF block can be flipped in different configurations and trimmed onsite to decrease waste during the construction process. Additionally, any EPS foam or webbing that is not needed can be reused on another project or recycled.

The hinged nature of Nudura ICFs allow the forms to fold flat and stack together tightly, which means you can fit more blocks on the truck to reduce the number of shipments and save on freight costs. You’re cutting fuel consumption and carbon emissions while enhancing construction efficiency. You're not shipping air!
