Enermodal Headquarters

The goal of the Enermodal Engineering Headquarters in Kitchener, Ontario, now LEED Platinum certified, was to create a healthy work environment for its employees in a building that uses 80% less energy than any other office in the country. Nudura® Insulated Concrete Forms provided superior insulation for healthy indoor air quality (IAQ). Ventilation air is delivered separately from heating and cooling functions to ensure excellent IAQ without over- or under-heating.

The latest technology in heating and cooling was also used: heat pumps that operate continuously at a low speed. Active daylighting, automated exterior shades and motion sensors were other key aspects to the sustainable design.

During the construction process, recycled materials were used wherever possible, such as stone, exterior steel cladding, carpet, concrete and gypsum board from two demolished buildings in the region. There was 89% of site waste diverted from the landfill to recycling facilities.
