Gary A. Walsingham Academy in Panama City Beach, Florida, exemplifies the effective use of Nudura® Insulated Concrete Forms for the construction of educational facilities for increased durability and sustainability. The academy, the first new school built in the area after Hurricane Michael, leverages the strength of ICF technology to withstand hurricane-force winds and pressures, ensuring the safety of its faculty and students. Additionally, the sound-dampening properties of ICF enhance the learning environment by reducing noise distractions.
The U-shaped, two-story design includes administrative offices, media centers and classrooms. ICFs were used for the exterior walls and double-loaded corridors, providing structural integrity, insulation and acoustic barriers. Sustainability is at the core of this project with LED lighting, occupancy sensors, low-flow plumbing fixtures and a chilled water system. Combined with ICF construction, these elements ensure compliance with Florida's stringent energy conservation codes.
