This Long Island house is a fascinating mix of mid-century modern aesthetics and advanced sustainable construction technology. With a 40 ft wide interior opening, 8 ft diameter circular accent, oversized custom doors and windows and tight radius corners, the unique geometries of this 13,000 sq ft home added more complexity than standard Insulated Concrete Form jobs.

The 6 in. concrete core Nudura ICF walls had to be properly integrated with the reverse pitched airplane wing roof, conventional reinforced concrete walls and radiant heating systems, as well as Nudura Deck ICF elevated flooring and roofing. The home’s standout feature is the 210 ft long trans-sectional wall that cuts through the building and continues into the courtyard, partitioning the basketball and pickleball court from the swimming pool. All of these elements needed watertight connections to the ICF walls.

KJB Construction’s experience with Insulated Concrete Forms ensured the craftsmanship necessary to achieve these details, while also guiding the architects and engineers who had not built with ICFs previously.

The floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows are all triple-pane glass with UV light protection to maximize the thermal retention. Combined with the ICF walls and other sustainable design features, the home is predicted to experience 50-60% in energy savings.
