Mary E. Britton Middle School

One of the largest middle schools in Kentucky, Mary E. Britton Middle School was the county's first new middle school in more than 20 years and covers an impressive 170,000 sq ft.
 
As a public bid project, the build faced strict cost competitiveness and schedule adherence. The school design introduced technically demanding conditions: high wall sections, large open spans and precise roof connections, plus exacting embed placement for advanced MEP systems and an ICC-500 storm shelter, which is mandated in this tornado region. 
 
Nudura’s Insulated Concrete Forms made up the structural backbone of the new school. The thermally efficient envelope integrated with geothermal heating and cooling to minimize energy demand and operational costs. An ICC-500 tornado shelter engineered for 250 mph (402 kph) wind loads delivered code-compliant disaster resilience for students, staff and the community.
