Homeowner Pat McDowell conducted thorough research to ensure the building materials used in the construction of his new house would be durable enough to withstand storm damage and have superior thermal insulation and insect resistance. In the end, he said, “ICF construction provided the robust performance I was looking for.” The ICF build process also saved approximately two weeks of construction time compared to the CMU alternative.

The custom ICF home utilized Nudura® Insulated Concrete Forms to create a one-of-a-kind residence, characterized by numerous archways throughout its design. Even with 70 windows and doors, the continuous insulation and thermal mass of ICF exterior walls ensures that the home is energy efficient.

In fact, the average American household consumes 10,791 KWh of electricity a year, and yet this ICF home, substantially larger than average, only used 1885 kWh of electricity in 2024.

In addition to the thermal performance of the house, it boasts superior strength with a built-in safe room in case of tornadoes. Having now lived in the home for over five years, McDowell states that this is his family’s forever home. He went on to say that “after going through this building process and living in the home, I can't imagine why anyone would build a house with anything other than Insulated Concrete Forms. Of all the decisions we made in the process of building this house, hands-down the best decision we made was to use Nudura ICFs.”
