For its new highway patrol facility, the Ohio State Highway Patrol selected Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms to deliver a modern new building with a community room, storm shelter and trooper vehicle storage with 3 garage doors.

Site constraints limited equipment and material staging, as the property is bound by a highway to the north and overhead electrical lines to the south. ICFs helped alleviate this challenge by minimizing the laydown area needed for the structural wall components.

The design included a single-slope roof connection at a 20-foot-tall ICF wall, enhanced reinforcement for a dedicated storm shelter topped with hollow-core precast planks and a reinforced concrete cap. Prebuck for wall openings and parapet caps resisted warping from water exposure and provided a durable substrate to install the door and window frames and other exterior finishes.

Using ICF for the full exterior envelope helped the building exceed current energy code requirements by 5% and allowed HVAC equipment to be sized 10 to 15% smaller. The result is a resilient, efficient public facility built to serve both troopers and the Fremont community. With the success of this project, all new Ohio State Highway Patrol posts will be built using ICF construction.
