“We truly believe ICF pools are a disruptive technology in the pool space,” said All3 Pools in their ICF Builder Award nomination for the Ozark Pool, which ultimately earned them a 1st Runner Up Award in the Pools category.

As part of a large outdoor renovation for this Missouri home, an in-ground saltwater swimming pool was a must. To speed construction and maximize thermal efficiency, the team opted to build the 38,000-gallon pool with Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) compared to a traditional Gunite pool. ICF pools don’t require the temporary supports or falsework of Gunite pools, which makes for a cleaner jobsite and saves time on set up and teardown of the shell.

For optimal thermal performance, the project used Nudura’s one-sided XR35 Unassembled Panel with 4 in. thick EPS insulation. This continuous insulation reduces the costs of heating the pool and enables space for the pipes to sit within the EPS foam. In conjunction with an automatic pool cover to eliminate the effects of evaporative cooling, this ICF pool is roughly 3 times as energy efficient as pools without these features.

Alternative methods would have sacrificed performance or required a separate spray foam contractor to come behind the Gunite crew and plumber to encapsulate the pool’s shell. Instead, the team utilized a monopour shell where the concrete walls and floor were poured at the same time. In the end, the ICF process saved 8 weeks in the pool's construction schedule!
