When a fire destroyed a beloved 1860s home on a prestigious street in Carleton Place, Ontario, the community rallied around the displaced family. The house rebuild that followed drew frequent onlookers who nicknamed it the "Lego House" as Nudura® Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) stacked into place.
Throughout the construction process, however, this ICF home faced numerous logistical obstacles. An already tight timeline was exacerbated by COVID-19 restrictions that limited crew sizes and disrupted supply chains. In addition, the team had to navigate tight jobsite access due to the adjacent homes and a 100-year-old tree that the homeowners wished to preserve. This also complicated the construction of the in-ground ICF pool, so the crew left the second story of the house down for an extra day so the concrete pump could reach up and over to fill in the walls of the pool.
With their creativity and expertise, AMP Construction successfully delivered a gorgeous house with Nudura 6 in. (152 mm) ICF walls, installing 400 linear ft (121.92 m) of 12 ft (3.66 m) high walls within a single week by a 4-man crew. The energy efficiency of the new ICF house is also measurable, with the blower door test recording at 0.425 ACH. Now completed, the homeowners have praised the quiet, comfortable environment that ICF construction brings and the peace of mind that their new fire-resistant home will keep their family safe.
